SPOIWO – Salute Solitude
Cover and CD packaging design for Salute Solitude, the debut album by SPOIWO, a band from Gdańsk playing instrumental post-rock that also takes from ambient, electronic, and soundtrack genres. Their music tends to build slowly, often from quiet, minimal parts into dense and deep, layered sound. The cover needed to match this specific vibe: both minimal and dense. The image chosen for that job is a dark, atmospheric photograph by Elena Kalis. Her work is based on staged underwater photography, with strong attention to lighting, body position, movement, and colour. This image fitted the album well: it had space, stillness and tension, where every detail spoke, and nothing felt only decorative.
My role was to build the full visual form around the chosen image. I designed the cover, typography, layout, and packaging for CDs and vinyl records. I kept the design simple and controlled, as the photograph already carried the main atmosphere. The main task was to integrate the general vibe of the music, the photograph, all the text (title, band name, tracklist), and the physical packaging format into a single, cohesive piece. The final design brings it all together into a single, clear object that’s both restrained and atmospheric.
