X:BRFM // Bioform structures
Idea
X:BRFM – Bioform Structures project was created as an experiment. The main purpose was to let the unconscious to express itself through the creation of graphic forms on small sheets of paper. To achieve that, I took a marker pen and drew all the artworks while not focusing on the act – letting my mind to be clear of thoughts as much as possible. I’m very much intrigued by the technique of subconscious or automatic painting due to the element of surprise and unexpected juxtapositions that way of work creates. While starting to draw the first graphic, I had no clue how it’ll look like in the final effect. That’s why I named this series only after finishing and analysing it.
I drew the first project series of 17 graphics in total, all of which you can see in the gallery below.
x: bio
The “X” is a symbol of the unknown – in this case, it symbolises the final result of the project. I didn’t know what I would receive while creating without any idea on my mind. It turned out that the effect – a series of graphics – looks like a set of bacterias, cells or similar forms. Therefore, in this series of my unconsciousness-expressed project, the “X” value turned out to be somehow chemical or biological.
Why the X proved to be BIO? Why my mind created that kind of images? I will leave you with that question, unanswered. However, I must admit, it made me think about what’s happening in my life, heart and head at that specific period. The project occurred to be the same interesting as therapeutic. I will definitely do a continuation of this idea by creating a new series based on the same rules after some time. You can also try and check the effects – open a dialogue with your self – it’s intriguing.
form
Although I anticipated that the form of my graphic would be somewhat abstract, I wouldn’t have guessed it come such uniform. All the drawings, however different, occur to have a very similar closed composition. It looks that my mind-emptiness in that specific time and a work style of doing a series at once gave me centre-composed forms related in each others structure.
What’s also interesting is that one drawing doesn’t give the same effect for a viewer as the series seen together. Pictures put together in a series have a much stronger influence on the observer while viewing.
I also didn’t suppose I would like the effect and the emotional impact it has on me and other people so much.
